Hello aelf Community,

Welcome to the October edition of the aelf Monthly Digest! Let's recap what happened in the past month: advancements in aelf’s technology, highlights ecosystem development, events, and Web3 industry insights.

Technology

1. aelf Network News: Transaction Fee Estimates, dAppChain Unveiled

In October, we introduced a new API, api/contract/estimateMethodFee, for estimating transaction fees. It can calculate the gas fee required to get a raw transaction onto the blockchain, regardless of whether the transaction ultimately succeeds. This enhancement provides users of the AI blockchain with an additional option for obtaining estimated transaction fees.

With the changing of the months, we've also had a big (chain)ge of our own: the aelf SideChain is now formally known as dAppChain. This refresh makes it easier and quicker for users to distinguish the function and purpose of the aelf MainChain and the aelf dAppChain.

The aelf dAppChain remains central to the aelf ecosystem, supporting key functions and providing an upgraded foundation for scaling decentralised applications with faster transactions, AI capabilities, and enhanced developer tools.

Users can better determine which chain to choose when interacting with dApps within the aelf ecosystem.

2. aelfscan Now Displays Multi-Chain Data

In October, aelfscan implemented comprehensive improvements to optimise multi-chain data display, enhancing both the user experience and data accuracy. The specific enhancements include:

  • Data display optimisation: aelfscan redesigned some data interfaces to make them more intuitive and easy to understand. Users can now browse and analyse multi-chain data more conveniently, ensuring the clear communication of information.
  • Data issue resolution: aelfscan conducted an in-depth investigation and correction of data issues identified through user feedback and internal testing, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of each data.
  • New data APIs: To better serve developers and users, aelfscan introduced several new data APIs. These APIs enable users to access core aelf network data in real-time, including block information, transaction details, and node status. Users can easily integrate this data into their applications to meet various needs.

As aelf celebrates a combined 1 billion blockchain transactions across both the MainChain and dAppChain, aelfscan will continue to improve users' experience with more comprehensive and precise on-chain data services, further driving the application and development of AI-enhanced blockchain technology.

Events

1. Bounty Competitions Bring out the Best in Web3 Solutions

Last month, we concluded a bug bounty challenge jointly organised by Google Cloud Platform and StackUp, and crowned three winners. The winning project that scored the grand prize, aelfgenie by Chel Koby, was created with a laser-focused goal of simplifying dApp development using AI-powered tools. aelfGPT and Lambdified, the runner-up and second runner-up project respectively, also brought innovative AI-infused solutions to the fore.

That's not the only challenge. In a partnership with Remedy, a leading cybersecurity community, we invited security researchers, developers, and ethical hackers to participate in a bug bounty program, in which the winning project will win up to $50,000.

4. October AMA: aelf Sees Into the Future With Three Protocol

aelf recently participated in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) hosted by Three Protocol, where they discussed the convergence of blockchain and AI. The session kicked off with a thought provoking question: "It's been 16 years since Bitcoin released its white paper. How do you think BTC will unfold in the next 16 years?"

aelf's contribution to the AMA highlighted the growing importance of AI and its potential to supplement the adoption of blockchain. In order for blockchain and crypto to become more widely accepted, people shouldn't have to grapple with its complexities, and that is where AI agents can help.

To wrap up the session, attendees participated in a fun quiz, with the fastest respondent winning USDT rewards.

Industry Insights

Did you know? The alpha version of Telegram for Android was released exactly 11 years ago, on 20 October 2013. As a nod, we telegraphed no few coverages on the messaging super app, especially since the Mini App platform has been taking the world by storm.

Powered by TON blockchain, these bite-sized apps are small, easy to digest, and surprisingly addictive—in spite of their simplistic nature. The detailed guides found on Telegram and TON's websites hint at the ease of building these apps for inexperienced developers to tap into Telegram and Web3 users.

Mini Apps' virality proves that sometimes, less really is more.

And here's the kicker: this trend could be the Trojan Horse that sneaks Web3 into the mainstream. As users get comfortable with Mini Apps, they're also getting a taste of the decentralised, user-centric future that Web3 promises.

1. The Best Telegram Mini Apps to Try

Telegram users (and even infrequent Telegram users) are big on Mini Apps these days. The platform unlocks more than just messaging to indulge users in Web3 gaming, entertainment, social, and DeFi applications—all from within the app. We round up the best ones that are not just on-chain, but on-point.

2. The Fall of Play-to-Earn Games: Lessons for Telegram Mini App Tap-to-Earn Games

Do you remember Axie Infinity, Gods Unchained, and The Sandbox? They introduced the world to play-to-earn games (and the Metaverse) and heightened their popularity once upon a time. They have since faded into the background, with Web3 gaming's flavour du jour being Telegram's tap-to-earn games. Will the tap-to-earn suffer the same fate as play-to-earn, or will the powerhouses in Hamster Kombat, Catizen, and Empire X supersede expectations?

3. aelf Playground Review: What Makes It an Attractive Development Environment?
