Building on this impressive momentum, here’s a preview of aelf’s key upgrades and releases for 2025:
1. Comprehensive Blockchain Modularisation
aelf plans to fully modularise its core blockchain functions—such as transaction execution, consensus, data availability, and settlement—and adopt a microservices architecture with a plug-in design philosophy. By decoupling features into independent service modules (Services/Microservices), aelf ensures minimal inter-dependencies and easy hot-swapping for seamless upgrades.
- Pluggable Consensus Mechanisms: Within a single foundational framework, you can switch or upgrade consensus algorithms (PoS, DPoS, PoW, etc.) to fit various application scenarios.
- Customised On-Chain Logic: Each module can be expanded using smart contracts or rules engines, letting developers combine different features like building blocks—ideal for multi-industry, multi-scenario needs.
- Boosted Maintainability and Scalability: This modular setup cuts down internal coupling, greatly improving maintainability and enabling quicker adaptation to new features and protocols.
In addition, aelf will explore foundational BlockDAG technology in the future to overcome the concurrency and scalability limitations of traditional chain structures, avoiding the performance bottlenecks caused by linear block packaging.
2. Distributed Computing and Cloud-Native Deployment: Boosting Blockchain Performance
aelf will use the Orleans (Actor Model) framework for modular reconstruction, enabling different components to efficiently handle parallel computing and messaging in distributed environments.
- Actor Model Concurrency: By utilising virtual actors in Orleans for stateless message distribution and asynchronous processing, transaction throughput is significantly increased.
- Cloud-Native Architecture and Container Orchestration: Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), combined with DevOps, real-time monitoring, and elastic scaling, ensures high availability and performance even during peak transaction volumes.
- AI-Driven Elastic Scaling: Machine learning models will predict and analyse node loads, network latency, and resource usage, automatically scaling nodes up or down to achieve genuine pay-as-you-go efficiency.
3. AI Module: An 'Intent'-Based Web3 Access Layer
aelf aims to streamline traditional Web3 interactions—like signing, cross-chain transfers, gas fee management, and multi-account handling—by providing intelligent, automated encapsulation to lower the barrier to entry.
- Intent Recognition and Automatic Multi-Step Execution: The system interprets a user’s goal (intent) and takes care of signatures, contract calls, fee calculations, and more, with minimal user input.
- Privacy & Security: Leveraging technologies like secure multi-party computation (MPC), zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), or homomorphic encryption, aelf ensures users’ accounts and transaction data remain fully protected.
- Pluggable AI Engine: Developers can integrate various AI models—LLMs, graph neural networks, etc.—for custom scenarios such as complex cross-chain interactions or smart contract logic recommendations, simplifying the Web3 experience.
